The proposal replaces a building built between 1922 and 1924, owned by the reformed church. Leaving out the outdated department store from the functional programme, the new palazzo will continue to host parish-related functions (pastoral offices, congregation house, parish, sacristy), as well as offices leased to church-affiliated organizations and pastoral apartments.
By continue the line of the adjacent streets the new building will gently fit in the historical urban fabric. Although, it will face towards the church with a new facade, eliminating the previous uncertainties by keeping a close distance along the side. A new sacristy is also being built, providing pastoral preparation for worship and entry for the crypt. Behind the church, a new intimate square is created, providing a new entrance for the nearby school.
The neighboring Secondary School of Visual Arts, the so-called Kisképző is struggling with a lack of space, their building is slowly growing out, they can practically accommodate only specialist classrooms. Periodically, galleries are rented at several points in the city for student exhibitions. Just as the Kisképző does not have a gym next door, they have to rent it. In the new building there will also be drawing rooms, galleries, classrooms and lecturer halls, and a gym on the underground level; thus providing all the missing space for the school.
